Flame on HD
So wining season come and gorn ...... and as ah mentioned before ...... ah blaze de trail in only bout 8 carnival events ...... one being the CD launch of my favourite Soca artiste ...... where ah didn't only 'attend' ...... but ah was one of de groupies right under he nose at the front of de stage ...... he even gimme ah lil bounce ..... anyway ..... ah doh know if it was just pure jamishness ...... or if it was my unconditional love ...... but ah was feelin lil jumbie today ...... and ah went out and buy de 2008 CD ...... Flame On ........ cuz yuh know me ...... ah love meh Machel ..... so ah say ..... yuh know what ...... leh meh go an buy meh original HD (copy) ......
anyway ..... feelin higher dan high ..... after makin meh purchase ..... when ah reach home wit de flamin hot CD ...... ah didn't fire it up right away ....... ah had lil tings tuh do ..... lil emails tuh check etc. ....... so bout 6:40 pm .... which was about an hour later ..... ah realise like ah wasn't gettin off dis computer any time soon ..... so ah pull out meh CD ...... tuh finally feel de heat ..... an ah stick it in de drive ..... ah tell mehself ah go jus take eeeen de oil and music while ah online ...... lo and behold ..... up comes Windows Media Player ...... sayin "BLANK DISC" ....... so ah tell mehself ........ dat had tuh be one of two tings ...... either meh computer wacking out ...... or de CD was too High Def ......... ah say ..... WHA!! ...... Machel not easy ....... he gettin orn ..... he CD real tech bwoy ...... like yuh need ah code tuh access it ...... anyway ..... not quite understanding what was happening ...... I ejected the CD and tried to play it in my regular CD player ........ only tuh hear ah setta funny noises ...... like if de CD 'rollin' inside de player ..... OK ..... so I eh no Techie ...... but ah start tuh doubt mehself now ...... ah say buh wait nah ...... it cyah be ..... dat I doh know how tuh play ah CD ...... or ..... dat all my CD drives not working ...... it had tuh be dat someting wrong wit de CD (god forbid!) ...... but still givin HD de benefit of de doubt ..... cuz is HD yuh know!!!! ...... is High Definition!!!! ...... ah say lemmeh try one more place ..... meh car ....... well hello ...... SALT!!!! dey too ...... it went eeen good good ...... stay dey fuh bout 2 seconds ..... and den eject (a.k.a. premature ejection) ...... wit some "err" message in de display .....
..... so anyway ...... still not believing that the problem could really be wit de high definition CD ...... but still not finding any other viable reason/solution either ...... I called the store where I bought it ...... and reported my problem ....... the Store Clerk simply offered to replace it ...... but advised that that branch was closing in 5 minutes (at 7:00 pm) ..... and that I'd be able to replace it at their Movie Towne Branch which was closing at 8:00 pm ...... and that she'd call them to inform them of my imminent arrival .......
..... so with one hour to get tuh Movie Towne ..... yuh gyul organise herself quick ....... and fly dong de highway ...... cuz ah was anxious tuh rectify dis situation ...... yuh know how it is when yuh ready tuh make love wit de congo man ...... and tings just not rollin!!!! .....
..... when ah reach de store ..... there were two customers by the Cashier ...... and one Store Clerk shuffling and fixing CDs ..... so I approached 'Ms. Look Busy' ..... and indicated that I was there to replace the CD since it just would not play ....... she was cool ..... she took it ...... walked over to the Cashier's enclosure ...... dug out a new CD from somewhere under de Cashier chair ..... and proceeded to open it ...... to check it of course ....... same time now ..... one of de two customers by de Cashier who was currently cashing ....... and who obviously maco-ed my story ...... realised that the CD I was talking about ...... was the very CD she was now swiping her credit card for ...... so she immediately asked the Clerk to 'check' her CD too ..... as hers was flying out the next morning ...... yep ...... de CD was goin 'away' ...... so ..... twas at this point that I decided to enquire on whether I was the only person with the problem (i.e. of the CD just not playing) ...... I must say ...... I was surprised ..... and a bit disturbed ....... and very disappointed by the Clerk's very nonchalant response ...... apparently I was their first customer to experience de blank CD syndrome (figures!) ....... but she then went on to offer far more information than she probably should have (well, to me at least) ..... cuz she told me that the complaints that they've been getting consisted of certain songs on the CD jumping and some songs skipping etc ....... apparently these CDs were acting out de 'wining season' literally ...... she also told me that one of the 'problem' songs on de CD is number 10 ....... which was proving not to be a perfect 10 ...... so while my gyul was still checking my CD and customer number 1's CD ...... in walks customer No. 3 ..... to buy de same CD ..... well ah feel because customer No. 3 ..... was standing right between me and No. 1 ..... de Clerk made de wise decision to advise No. 3 of their predicament regarding the CDs ...... No. 3 was not the least bit phased ....... she just confirmed that she'd like to have hers 'checked' too ....... and was ready to pay ......
...... now mind you ...... when I say 'check' ..... all that really meant was them switching from song to song ..... just tuh ensure dat de CD eh blank (like mine) ..... and dat all de songs playing ..... cuz obviously ....... each CD could not be 'checked' in its entirety ....... dat would have meant ah party in de store!!!!
...... needless tuh say ....... when I got home (after 8:00 pm) ...... wit meh new bran CD ....... more of the same ....... wining season all over again .... ah setta skippin and jumpin! ...... didn't have any recourse this time though ..... all stores were now closed ...... tomorrow ...... I will be returning the CD ..... and requesting a refund ....... ah go jus pirate de music off de radio ..... which incidentally ..... is what the CD sounds like anyway!
...... now I didn't write this because ...... I'm idle ..... like most of you think ..... I didn't write this for laughs ...... cuz to me this is no laughing matter ..... and I certainly didn't write it to be malicious ...... which is a word sometimes used to describe some of my rantings ...... when you don't agree .....
...... I wrote this as a concerned consumer ....... and as a somewhat frustrated one ...... I wrote this to warn prospective buyers of said CD ...... I wrote this ....... so at least if you're like customer No. 3 (i.e. doh care) ...... at least you'll know tuh still have it 'checked' ...... I wrote this because I don't respond well to the feeling of being deceived ...... I wrote this in the hope that some kind of positive action will follow ...... perhaps by an influential person who may read this post .... it baffles me ..... that 'people' ..... maybe not the right people ..... know about the problems being experienced with said CDs ..... and to date the CDs have not been recalled .... they are still on the shelves ..... for loyal, fanatical HD fans (like myself) to purchase ....... I can only imagine how many of those defective CDs probably crossed the seas already ...... what embarrassment for HD and by extension ...... for Trini ..... for a foreigner to have purchased a 'blank' CD ...... I don't know about you ...... but when I spend $140 on a local CD ...... I feel proud to know that I have supported a local artiste .... and I think it is only fair ..... that artistes reciprocate with a quality product .....

funny thing is that cost of production of the CD... that is packaging labeling etc is under TT$20...
please rest assured that I am not talking about the studio resources... my problem with paying $140 for a (burn) duplicated CD is horrendous no matter how much I may LOVE an artist...
now a replicated from a glass master i will pay for...
the error that was made with these CDs was properly handled by the store... as its not their fault anyway... but the damage done by artiste management... is real High Definition
