The Lion, the Knight .... and the bogus TGIF Voucher!
Aye ..... trinis real easy tuh bamboozle bwoy!! ........ we real gullible ....... well me at least!
By now you would have heard about the FABULOUS Mother's Day concert ....... with Lionel Richie and Brian Mc Knight ..... and I say FABULOUS ...... cuz that's what was reported ...... in the subsequent reviews in de papers ....... I never made it ...... just couldn't afford the sections I would have liked to be in ....... i.e. the $1000 Platinum ...... and the $600 Gold ....... and ...... even though those prices ....... had ah kinda VIP all-inclusive ring tuh dem ..... they DID NOT include any frills ...... like food and/or drinks ...... so I guess that's where the 'voucher' came in ..... cuz each Platinum and Gold ticket came with ...... a TGIF dinner voucher ....... allowing you to purchase a 3 course dinner for $200 (excerpt from actual newspaper ad below)

Anyway ...... as ah say ....... I didn't go tuh de concert ..... but my parents did ...... and they very willingly palmed off their two vouchers on me (maybe dey had smell de rat!) ...... YAY ...... I thought ...... free food!!! ....... but ....... in all de chaos ....... dat ah tell allyuh ...... ah livin in lately ...... I clean forget de vouchers ....... and is only yesterday ....... de las 'valid' day ...... dat ah remember dem.
Now stay wit meh here eh ...... cuz things get a lil tricky ...... remember the little phrase "allows you to purchase a 3 course dinner for $200" ....... which also appears on the actual Voucher (see below) ....... and which many other people interpreted as 'Freeness' too ....... well ...... let's just say ...... things aren't always what they seem ...... de english language ...... is simply fascinating ....... cuz not only did the phrase mean ..... nothing that it purports ...... it also did not mean that anything was FREE!

Look at de voucher good ...... look at de word 'PURCHASE' ..... it in all caps ...... dat alone shouda been de clue ...... subtle ...... yet boldly saying ..... dat de voucher simply ALLOWED you to PURCHASE a 3 course dinner for $200 ..... as opposed tuh maybe purchasing it ..... fuh de $300 or $400 dat it probably normally costs!
Now some day last week ....... a geh ah lil zeppo ....... dat de voucher scene was really lil suspect ..... but I not on second hand info ..... and ...... he say .... she say ..... so I say ...... leh meh see wha dey say ...... so ah call TGI tuh get de real scoop ...... now I eh makin up dis crap eh ...... hear what de gyul tell meh ....... de gyul tell meh ..... dat I will have tuh put out $253 ...... not $200 eh ...... or $250 ...... but $253 ..... doh ask meh where dat figure come from ...... I doh know if is de $200 ..... wit VAT and service charge and a BS fee ....... ah doh know ...... da'is what de gyul tell meh ...... well at dat point ...... ah was feelin more dotish ..... cuz ah really didn't understand ....... as a matter of fact ...... I doh tink SHE even understand what she was sayin!!
After dah conversation ...... de only ting dat was clear ...... is dat ...... cash had tuh pass ...... nothing was free ...... 'free' was a fallacy ...... you could not 'purchase' a 3 course dinner for $200 ....... using your $200 voucher ....... de perceived bonus ...... turned out tuh be ...... bloody bogus!!!
Ms. TGI was kix tho ........ she apologised for the 'mix up' ..... but emphatically stated dat ...... dey didn't have nuttin tuh do ...... wit de 'misleading' ad (her word, not mine) ..... and that they've been fielding numerous calls and complaints about de whole 'tie up' scene ...... her voice and tone ...... were shouting ...... TANK GAWD THIS TING EXPIRIN TODAY!
In de end ....... de only 'freeness' ah get ........ was de two piece ah cardboard de voucher print on!
Read ..... read ...... and read between de lines people ...... and if it soundin too good tuh be true ..... then dat mean yuh readin it stupid ...... and if yuh read it again ...... and it still soundin too good tuh be true ..... then it IS too good tuh be true!
