Being female ...... I was born with the 'shopping' gene ...... and ...... being a shopaholic ..... I learned dat not all shoppin 'equal'...... shopping fuh clothes ...... love it .... shopping for jewelery ..... love it ....... shopping for shoes ..... love it ...... shopping in de Indian Expo ...... love it ........ shopping in Samaroos ...... love it ...... shopping fuh groceries (in HILO) ..... HATE IT!!!
I hate de grocery ..... I hate looking fuh food ..... I hate trying to select good veggies ...... I hate having to check expiry dates ...... I hate having to compare prices ...... I hate the prices ...... I hate bouncing up people who feel we have tuh indulge in 'small talk' ...... I hate people macoing what's in my cart (yes, I eat Top Ramen soup - cuz ah poor an ah doh cook!) ..... I hate when people indiscriminately block up de aisles (while trying to decide on regular or decaf - yuh mus know wha yuh does drink!) ....... I hate when I can't find what I want (Seamoss Supligen - do dey still make dis flavour?!) ...... I hate when de conveyor belt is dirty (as in wet) and de Cashier doh wipe it off before I put my groceries ...... I hate when I place my groceries on the dry part and she drags it through de wet shit ....... I hate when people have no respect for the '1-10 items' line especially when dey end up in front of me wit dey 100 items ...... I hate when the Cashier doh want tuh give meh de measly stupid 1 or 2% TTARP discount (altho is really my mother's card - but every dollar counts
) ....... I hate when I have to go tuh another branch ...... tuh get de one item (mushrooms!) ....... dat ah didn't get at de Westmall branch ..... I hate when HILO Westmall rearrange de whole damn grocery ....... every damn month ...... I hate Grocery Shopping!!!
Yes ....... HILO Westmall does change tings up ...... every month ..... WHY?? ...... do you know? ....... is it a technique dey learned in Grocery School? ....... is it to make our grocery shopping experience NEW everytime ...... is it dat some products prefer to be next to others ...... is it that some products would sell better if they were placed on the western side of de grocery as opposed tuh de eastern side ..... is it some kind of job creation tactic ..... where they make up duties tuh occupy de idle among their staff ...... is it dat Crix and potato chips will sell better ..... if dey put dem in de same aisle as de alcohol ...... Crix used tuh be near de sweeties ..... in de back ...... now it near de front ..... in de first aisle ..... right opposite Stag and Carib ...... what is it?? ...... is it some kind of merchandising strategy ...... WHAT IS IT??? ...... now of course ....... these are all rhetorical questions ....... cuz whatever de answers are ...... ah doh care ...... ah jus need tuh vent ..... cuz ah cyah stand when ah learn de damn order ....... and dey go an change it!!!

FAST ...... but somebody keeps messin up de scene ...... and messin up my vibes!!! ..... cuz I doh really go tuh de grocery often ...... actually I doh even really set aside time to do 'grocery shopping' ...... most times ..... when I end up in de grocery ..... is because ah desperately need sumtin ...... like toilet paper or whip cream ....... so basically ...... I'm always in de grocery on borrowed time ....... is always ah lil quick detour ....... so I need tuh do dat shit ..... FAST ...... and ..... today was no different .....
....... ah had tuh go Westmall ...... so inasmuch as ah was already 'out and about' ....... and near de grocery ...... ah decide tuh make de turn one time ..... so ah pull up ah cart ...... and head straight fuh de veggie section ...... when ah spot alcohol ...... obliquely opposite de veggies ...... strange I thought ..... but it didn't clue me in ..... tuh de chaos that was tuh follow ....... apparently today was de 'rearrange' day ...... so a lot of the aisles were blocked up wit staff and carts and empty shelves .....
....... and ...... even tho its always about 10 items only ..... dat I lookin for ...... it may be my imagination ...... but I tink dat de same 10 crap I buy all the time ..... is de same 10 crap dey does always seem tuh be movin around ...... and when I enquired today about the rationale for @#$%^&* up a good scene ..... EVERY MONTH! ...... I was simply told dat de Manager like tuh mix it up every now and den ..... well clearly de Manager of HILO Westmall ....... need tuh make some chirren ...... cuz rite now ...... he/she have WE ...... like lil chirren ..... playin blasted HIDE and SEEK ..... every damn time we go tuh de grocery!!!

and look at dis mess ...... you want tuh tell me ...... dat instead of having de staff doing unnecessary shit like moving ting off one shelf .... and putting dem on another ..... dat dey couldn't get dem tuh clean dis nasty freezer???? ....... look at dat meat how stink!!! ...... and dat scene stretched for about 10 feet ...... 10 feet of freezer ...... wit ah setta icey meat strewn all over ...... and it looked a 100 times worse in real!!!
PS: I once contemplated trying one of those online groceries ..... but couldn't come tuh terms wit a stranger chosin foodstuff for me!

I have the SAME meat issue...how the hell u supposed to imagine eating..this Meat that look like it get fling up and blood leaking out and in...and ...Nasty!...that REALL APPETIZING...NOT!

Funny you should write this article on HiLo. I just came back from HiLo Westmall and some of the shelves were bare. They didn't even have my Silk Soy Milk. Added to that, I'm used to getting my Pita Bread on the Bread shelve. When I didn't see it I asked an employee and she told me it's in the chiller...WHAT!!!!!! Today was just a hot mess in HiLo because they are restocking the shelves so the aisles were packed with carts containing goods. Oh well.

well yes!! i thought i was the only one who loathed going to the grocery. It's because of two things: i find the grocery too cold for me plus my mother says she going for 5 things and come out with ten bags and annoy me. But say what we need to eat maybe you should check out hilo glencoe. At least their shelves are stocked....i think

Zee .... they're all the same .... I go to Westmall, Starlite AND Glencoe ..... and they're all the same ..... what was weird tho .... is that some time last week ..... Stalite was closed early one day .... fuh de same restockin exercise .... and de nex day ..... Glencoe was closed early .... there were notices in the newspapers .... so wha happen wit Westmall .... why dey couldn't close off early too .... and do dat crap in privacy .... I jus doh understand why customers had tuh be subjected tuh all dat confusion!

Whaaaat allyuh talkin about!!! i LOVE Hi Lo! I love to walk around the grocery...three or four times lookin for 1 item, I love to ask questions in the grocery....because I love to indulge in idle banter for minutes on end..in hi-lo. I love that about hi-lo...I love their prices...I love how they change every week...day...whatever... I love it.HI-LO!!!! You're the gradest!!! I MUST,MUST,MUST have ice/frost on my meat when I'm buying it. Because I dont really like to see what the meat looks like until I ready to deal with it. I actually prefer to buy a big pack of tomatoes because its always better to have more tomatoes than I need.... although it is fun to rummage through the dregs with the hope of finding 1 or 2 ok tomatoes. Good times...good times...
I love to see people in the express lane with more than ten items! and just when you think it can't get any better, the cashier processes their transaction....touche. yeah...I like that. I love how their cashiers' emotions are prominent than their work-badge.Thats the best! Every muscle and tendon, fibre of their being, combining to silently convey the message: "Yuh see me, i *@$# tired and underpaid so tryuhbess! Outstanding!!.. free drama, I can't get enough!!

I don't like supermarkets and the only reason I go is to buy crab meat.
I like to bad-talk hi-lo and though they don't rearrange things too much in St. Augustine, the shelves are always full with things I, and everybody else, would never buy. Things like multi-grain Crix and $25 cans of Campbell's Soup with added vegetables.
Having empty shelves is one method supermarkets use to create the illusion that things are selling fast - when they are not- causing the panic-stricken and panic-prone buyer to pick up things next to the empty shelves and head for the cashier.
