Dat gas ting in de budget ...... have meh lil antsy ..... hence my return! 
Yuh see ..... de Minister of Finance ...... Karen Nunez-Tesheira ...... in her maiden budget speech yesterday ..... announced an immediate increase ..... in the cost of premium gasoline (as tho it wasn't 'premium' enuff) ..... which by the way ...... caused a mad rush ..... at gas stations last nite ...... cuz ah setta silly Trinis ..... was tryin tuh get dey last dregs of gas ...... at de old price! ...... anyway ........ in an article in today's Express ..... dey say ..... she say ..... that the increase is targeted at ...... high end vehicle owners "who could afford it" ..... and that its also an ideal way ...... to reduce traffic congestion ..... and ROAD RAGE??!! ..... without increasing the rate of inflation ...... blah, blah, blah BS!
Please ...... could somebody explain meh dat logic??? ..... seriously ..... meh head hard!

I does done ahready ketch my ass tuh full up my tank ...... now is ah whole $35 extra I go have tuh spend in gas ..... and tuh go where ..... tuh make two three small turn in town ..... and den have tuh full up again ..... and how is increasing the price of gas going tuh help with Road Rage?! ..... increasin de price of gas gonna ....... CAUSE road rage ...... not reduce it ...... so tuh apply dat very simplistic (dotish) theory ....... implying dat if de price of gas increase ...... it will cut down on de amount ah cars on de road ..... and hence cut down road rage ..... is (how can I say this tactfully) ..... it is simply DOTISH!!! ..... and yes ...... congestion is one of the causes of road rage ..... but instead of tryin tuh jam people wit gas price ....... in de hope dat dey leave dey car home ..... why not upgrade de public transport system instead ...... I would love to leave my car home (safe) sometimes ..... cuz parkin is another jumbie ..... road rage is a vicious cycle ..... is not only about too much cars ...... is also about the fact that nothing seems to work in this country ...... is about general frustration ....... while most of us ..... at some point .... have been victims of road rage .... and have ourselves ..... at some point ..... provoked it ...... or perpetrated it ....... we may be a vex bunch yes ..... but we eh cunumunus ....... is ONLY a proper working country ...... could reduce road rage!
..... and talkin about said road rage ...... dat de Government tryin tuh 'reduce' on one hand ...... but 'causing' on the other ...... check out dat Notice below ..... which has been appearing in the newspapers ...... for the past two or three days ...... now how de arse ...... people livin in dat area ....... suppose tuh get tuh dey home ...... if de bridge ....... or de road or whatever ...... impassable and closed 'until further notice' and it have no alternative route??!! ....... how dey reachin?? ...... wit de BLIMP??!!! ........ why de arse SOMEBODY not working on dat round de clock ...... tuh fix it soonest ...... and instead of issuin ...... a stupid Notice like dat (it not even 'dated') ...... put out one instead tuh say .... dat by so-an-so dat it go be fixed ...... a date like 'immediately if not sooner'!!! ...... cuz as it is ...... dat Notice makes no sense ..... cuz it jus statin what people done know ...... and providing no insight into de unknown (i.e. when it go get fix!) ..... and dat annoying standard apology ..... De blimp does use premium, super or diesel? Cause I go hate to think my tax dollars paying to full up dat blimp gas tank with PREMIUM GAS!!!

Ah come back again..............yuh know dis country is ah set a hype...before Karen Nunez-Tesheira (KNT) was touted as the first woman to present de budget in T&T......hype, hype & more hype....so we could get caught up in the moment and not pay attention to what was being said......dat was a bad ploy because real people listen to this budget....more than usual...Actually she is a big disappointment....Imagine an educated woman like that embarassing ALL women with that shit about road rage being prevented because there will be less cars on de road after the hike in gas price...Trini going and still drive dey car because it ain't have no reliable bus service....de train still coming and the watertaxi like it sinking.....Ah gorn again

Premium gasoline is now like cheese and Brunswick Sardines; available to only high-end people.
The one major requirement for selecting a Minister of Finance, apart from not knowing anything about finance and economics in general, is being clueless about the plight of citizens. In the past that person used to also be the Prime Minister but now he has hired even more clueless people.
I have a suggestion for the Minister for reducing the amount of cars on the road apart form making the owning of a car even more of a luxury. I want to suggest that the import duty on car parts be somewhere between 100% to 500% at the discretion of the corrupt Customs officers and UDECOTT. I think people are being unfair in accusing the Government in not diversifying the economy and you only have to look at how much the Crime Industry has blossomed over the last year alone. Crime does pay the Government is fully aware of how much. What the additional penalty of higher import duty on cars will do is to give the Crime Industry a much needed boost by providing criminals with more potential victims walking the streets at night.

agree with trinisamba all of this wouldn't matter if there was reliable public transportation... the President alluded to this in his Republic Address last night.... but I say its too little too late from him...

Looks like the ...... beginning of the end ...... of de gas subsidy ...... dat de Govt been so subtly hinting for some time .... so .... hopefully by the time it IS fully removed ...... all dem fancy transport projects (rapid rail, highway and interchange all over de place, water taxi etc. etc.) will be completed ...... and we WILL have a reliable public transport system .....
In de meantime tho ......
..... dilemmas dilemmas ..... do I shut up and continue tuh use premium .... cuz it better (supposedly) fuh meh car dat have fuel injectors dat could only digest 'premium' ...... and cuz it more environment friendly ...... or should I switch tuh super ...... dat eh really dat much different (supposedly) ..... and jus spend de extra dollars ah savin ...... on gas treatment instead ....... or do I put out ah one off $8 -10 gran and convert tuh CNG ....... and de money ah save subsequently ...... use it tuh put more CNG ...... after meh tank get empty ..... from driving around de country lookin fuh somewhere ..... tuh get CNG!!! ....... or ...... do I switch to diesel .... which I understand ain't too environment friendly ...... and does cause people tuh hear yuh comin from 10 miles away ..... but can a regular car make de diesel switch anyway ...... or da'is fuh trucks and pick up an ting? ...... cuz diesel cheaper too rite ..... well after yuh change yuh whole engine!!? ...... ahhhhh ..... decisions, decisions ......
I wait with bated breath now ..... tuh see de ramifications of dat gas increase ...... cuz yuh know real OTHER things ..... suddenly goin an' increase in price too ..... like immediately ...... taxi fare (ALL - de premium users and de diesel users and de super users) ....... and of course there will be some puzzling price hikes too ..... like cable ..... and movies at Movie Towne ..... and a cordless phone ..... and oh ..... don't be surprised if the cost of toilet paper goes up too .......

The price of toilet paper always goes up after every budget and it is a supply and demand thing.
The CNG conversion kits will be VAT and duty free so it will cost about 6K to convert. But the filling stations will realistically be 4 to 5 years behind so the whole CNG thing is more a statement about the future. Also, when a car is converted you lose between 25% to 100% trunk space which is in keeping with the amount of groceries people can now afford. After conversion the weight of the car increases putting more wear and tear on the car's suspension and driver. I think the main problem with having CNG vehicles will be the filling stations and thinking about it now, I would say 4 or 5 years is a bit optimistic.

question... how is the change/price increase/removal of subsidy immediate if the budget eh pass yet... and the fiscal year 2008/2009 doesn't start until October 01!

I too wondered the same thing ...... cuz as far as I know ...... de budget have tuh 'debate' (which is in progress now) ..... den 'pass' ..... so I really doh know de answer either ..... seems typical of the 'anything goes' trini way!
