Helicopters, Helipads, Heliports - OH HELL!!!
Helicopters in de area!
I remember long time ..... whenever yuh hear ah helicopter ...... yuh would run outside tuh look at it ...... in awe ...... cuz it was ah kinda strange sight (and sound) ...... but oh geeeeeezan rice ....... now ...... in de year 2008 ..... is like we celebrating de 'Year of de Helicopter' ...... cuz is every five minutes ...... ah helicopter rumblin in de air ..... right over yuh house ..... and environs!!! ...... I does feel like is Piarco I livin and not Diego??!!!
Now I doh know how it is in other parts of de country ..... but in de West ..... Helicopters have become bloody annoying ..... and as if de constant disturbance from dem wasn't enuff ..... they are now constructing a Helipad ...... on de Audrey Jeffers Highway (aka de Foreshore) ....... and hear nah ...... it goin up real fast eh ...... cuz one day ..... yuh jus start tuh see ah setta warning signs ...... den de next week ..... was tractor ...... and digging up ...... and puttin up fence an' ting!
And why a heliport on de Foreshore? ...... when it have odda heliports all over de place! ....... well ...... apparently ..... whenever town people have tuh access helicopter ...... dey does have tuh use de Savannah ..... and of course .... besides damagin de vegetation ....... dat scene was proving tuh be ah lil dangerous ..... as sometimes de Savannah not well enuff lit ...... or it have chirren playin ..... or it have fellas kickin ball an' ting ...... so ...... altho dey claimin dat dis 'town' heliport was in de works since bout 2 years ago ...... dey now decide tuh act on de plan ...... coincidentally ..... just in time fuh de two summits next year ..... and ...... even tho we can all see the coincidence ...... de Govt say ..... dat de two tings eh have nuttin tuh do wit each other ....... while on de odda hand ...... de National Helicopter Service ..... hopin dat dey WILL get some 'work' off of de summits!
Now I doh have ah problem wit regularisin de situation eh ...... so yes ...... perhaps a real heliport is needed in de North West ...... but on de Foreshore?! ....... how does a Heliport work on a busy highway ..... cuz ...... as far as I understand ..... all de exisiting Heliports ...... in de bush somewhere ....... like Camden Field in Couva and Chaguaramas and Galeota ...... so how is a Heliport on a highway safer than landing in de Savannah ...... cuz ...... at least if yuh in de Savannah an' ah helicopter comin in tuh land ..... yuh could toes outta dey ...... but wha yuh could do when yuh stuck in de daily Foreshore traffic ...... and de helicopter comin in tuh land ..... and de propeller start tuh kick up ah setta ting all over de place (as seen on TV) ...... ting like dust ...... and sea water ...... and mangrove ...... and tree ...... and stray grocery cart ...... and dead dog ...... and big stone an' ting ...... wha go happen ...... yuh cyah go nowhere!! ..... and when flying tings hit yuh car ...... who goin an fix dat?
I doh know ..... I may be overreacting .... I may be just venting out of sheer piss-ity ..... dat is more helicopter we go be seein (and hearin) in de West ...... or I may be displayin some cluelessness as usual ....... but is anybody else seein any sort of potential danger ...... in putting a Heliport ..... smack alongside a busy highway? ....... albeit temporarily ..... yeah ..... de Minister of Works and Transport say ...... dat it TEMPORARY ..... $3 Million worth of temporary ..... and he playin it off like is small ting .... like if when dey ready tuh move ..... dey could jus pick it up ...... and ress it dong in de new location!!! ..... but den again ...... who knows ...... maybe they can! ..... and maybe they won't need to spend another $3 Million on de permanent location!
Anyway ..... under all de gripin ..... I cyah wait tuh see dat ting in action ..... cuz who doh be fascinated at de sight of a helicopter (just feet away) comin in tuh land!!!
SLOW NOW! ..... I've seen that sign before (on other highways) ...... but what dat really mean ...... cuz it have any highway in Trinidad whey yuh could ...... GO FAST .... tuh have tuh SLOW NOW?!
Another warning sign ...... an' check out de Police ...... ah have tuh say eh ..... dem Police an dem real visible dis rounds ...... everywhere yuh turn now ...... it have ah Police!
..... and among all de traffic (dat said helicopters goin an land right next to) ...... look de heavy equipment (in de distance) ...... lookin tuh make de turn .....
and the sign reads ...... National Helicopter Services Limited ....... Foreshore Helipad Project ....... Start Date: October 13, 2008 ...... Completion Date: February 9, 2009 ......
And this is it ...... it gonna have ..... a concrete landing pad (so maybe there won't be dust after all) ....... and a parking area surrounded by a fence ...... oh .... and I think there's gonna be a separate access road too ...... which I could just see idiots using tuh get away from de traffic .......

well ...........yuh know how ah like to share meh thoughts.............because of de summit we all know dat traffic go be a real nitemare in the capital city...PoS.....de summit being held at de Hyatt an we boy Barack being at de Hilton.....so....I would imagine dat it makes good prudence to ensure his speedy arrival to AND departure from said summit.....I would imagine too dat dey would still have to use said Savannah because without dat how he getting to and from de Hilton............de entire city would have to be shut down for 3 whole days and not only on April 17, 2009 as planned.......ah wonder if dey go try to keep Barack away from Uncle Hugo Chavez - (Venezuela) Uncle Raul Castro -(Cuba), Uncle Juan Evo Morales Ayma (Bolivia) and Uncle Alvaro Uribe Velez (Colombia)(Ah feel he might really be meh uncle seeing dat meh mom from he country...LOL!!!

LOL 'scene. I cant wait for that dead dog to come flying up on my windscreen next as I'm flying down the foreshore.
I spent a lot of time jumping in and out of helicopters as I used to do a lot of work offshore. It is always fascinating to watch them land and take-off. Good memories of the OLD piarco and stanidng in the waving gallery with all the family watching the jets come and go. No one does that anymore do they?
I see you also caught a rare, endangered species in your camera (yes, "meh eyes long"). Bablyon at the side of the road preventing shoulder drivers!LOL.

Yes... and what could cause more traffic than a landing helicopter. I think the only people NOT seeing the dangers of this stupid helipad 6 ft from the busy highway is the stupid people who are putting it there. You talk about flying dead dog etc... I wonder about the damn rubber-necking fas drivers who will come to a complete and total stop in the middle of the damn road when the helicopter landing. But then again, that probably won't make a difference if we all in traffic at a complete stop anyway.
