What a coincidence!

On Tuesday ...... while reading Wallah's blog ...... I discovered that Hollywood Actress, Kate Winslet ...... is married to a Trini ...... a 'Mendes' ...... hmmmmm ...... I never knew!

Then on Thursday ...... I read a story in the Express ...... about a father who went tuh help out his daughter (after she called him for help) ...... and he end up killing de daughter husband ...... but hear de odd ting ....... the father is ah Trini living in England ...... he is ah primary school teacher ...... and his weapon of choice was a cricket bat ...... yep ..... de man kill he son-in-law wit ah cricket bat ...... who knew dat a cricket bat could be so dangerous ...... de man hit he son-in-law fuh 6 yes ....... 6 feet under!!! ...... den de next oddity ...... de son-in-law name ....... Sergio Mendes ...... huh ....... 'Mendes' ...... that name again ....... and Sergio? ....... de man have de same name as de Brazilian musician ...... Sergio S. Mendes!!!

Then today ...... ah bounce up dat new Farmer Nappy song (on Sweet 7 blog) ...... de silly one (oooops let me be more specific) ...... de one called Belly Dancer ....... de one dat he remix wit none other than ....... a Sergio Mendes ...... de original one I assume ...... cuz I doh really know Sergio Mendes music ...... ah mean ah know de name ..... but I cyah really recognise any of his music ...... anyway ..... from listening tuh de remix ..... I gather that the intro is the Sergio Mendes part ......

But whatever ..... cuz none ah dat really matter ...... what I was intrigued by ...... is that name ...... Mendes ...... which just kept popping up everywhere over the last few days!! ..... coincidence?? ...... strange?? ...... am I too observant?? ..... or am I just very idle?!

PS: .... I doh want tuh read papers tomorrow nah ..... cuz dat rain STILL FALLIN!!!

You know Mendes is a good Portugese name, there are a couple different families who not related to each other, like my friend Janine who can trace her family all the way back to Madeira. Her family is really big but they not related to any of the other Mendes, some of them arrived by way of Guyana...you should try Book of Trinidad, all that kind of history in there.

As for the cricket bat wielding father, actually it was the son-in-law's bat according to the BBC, he was using it to menace his wife before Pops arrived to hit him for a six. I still don't get the Judge who went on and on about sentencing Pops for "taking the life of someone's son and father". So it was okay for Dude to beat up on his wife and kids, maybe kill them like Mr. Vidale poor daughter and grandson? Bleeding heart English people.

If you want to find out about Sergio check out this link:

The problem with taking the life of a person is that the life-taker must prove to his peers in court that the killed person deserved to die. If the jury thinks that a father has no right swinging a cricket bat at the man who was attacking his daughter then so be it. If the jury concluded that the father simply woke up that morning, picked up the bat and went out looking for someone to bat then so be it. The law of common sense is not to be found in the Court of Law.

I read about Sam Mends and his Trini roots -

I just read the Sergio Mendes story ..... very interesting .....

Do you know that that was the first thing I thought ...... when I realised that Mr. Mendes was suddenly popping up in everybody's songs ...... that maybe he was the new Santana ..... cuz I remember not too long ago ...... the same thing happened with Santana ..... i.e. that he was singing with everybody too ..... like ah kinda 'come again' scene ......

Oh .... and I see in the Sam Mendes story ...... they referred to him as Trinidadian (by descent) ...... so I guess I was right after all!!
