Here today ... gone tomorrow!

I just got a phone call ...... with the most shocking news ......

Jizelle Salandy has died!

Yes ....... she was involved in a car accident this morning ...... on the Beetham Highway ..... and later succumbed to her injuries ......

I am by no means ..... a fan of female boxing ...... but Jizelle Salandy piqued my interest in the sport ...... after I read about her in the Woman Express some time in 2008 ..... it was at that point ...... that I realised ...... that her star was steadily rising ...... cuz her name was beginning to pop up everywhere ...... look just last month she was featured in the Express as one of their 'Celebrity Chefs' ...... then on Boxing Day (just 9 days ago) ..... she beat the Dominican Republic's Yahaira Hernandez ....... her 17th straight win ...... at only age 21 ..... she would have been 22 this month!

What it is really goin orn in dis place bwoy ...... what goin orn wit our athletes and sports people ...... first was Richard Thompson and Monique Cabral ...... now Jizelle ..... oh and there was another person in the car ...... a National Women's Footballer, Tamar Watson!! ...... what next ...... cuz yuh know dey say ting does happen in 3s!!!

This is so sad and I only heard it on the 7 o'clock news. Before, you could hardly keep Jizelle Salandy's name out the news but now this. The news report said she would have been 22 on January 25th. This is very sad.

considering they had to use the JAWS of LIFE to get them out of the car... SPEED probably played a part...

the speed limit is there for a reason... yes accidents occur even in traffic so we also need to be more aware when driving...

she is definitely a major loss to the country as she was/is an inspiration to alot of people...

yeah ..... apparently 'speed' was a factor .......  in the Express story for tomorrow's paper ....... an eyewitness said that Jizelle sped past him/her, spun around and hit the concrete pillar of the flyover .......

What a way tuh start the new year eh. When ah fus hear dat Jizelle dead, ah say 'wait nah! I eh just read dat she win a fight like two days ago?'.

Let us mourn her passing and pay tribute to all she accomplished in her 21 years, far more, far, far more dan de rest of us do in 3 and 4 times dat length of time. I recall when she burst on the scene wid all de controversy over her age. Thanks Jizelle for reminding us what we capable of doing in T&T once we dial dong the useless talk and get to action.

    RIP Jizelle
