Trini Graffiti ... art or arseness?!

Like Graffiti makin ah comeback?!

Fuh ah while now ...... I been noticing ...... a strange stencil-lookin kind (all black) ...... poppin up all over de place ...... then about two weeks ago ..... I drivin on de Diego Martin Main Road ..... an' I see one big-ass red and blue piece ...... on de people an' dem galvanise fence (opposite Starlite Plaza) ..... well I couldn't believe what I was seein ...... you know how long I eh see graffiti like dat ...... dat nice, big, colourful, fancy, chubby letters kind!

After dat now ..... ah start tuh notice de same design ..... in other locations too ...... like Mucurapo Road ...... and de Western Main Road ..... den today ..... ah see 3 new ones ..... on de Foreshore ..... Ariapita Avenue ...... and de Western Main Road again ..... ah say buh wha de jail ..... it have ah new graffiti artist on de loose in Tini or what?! ..... cuz new ones just keep poppin up almost overnight!! ...... nex ting yuh know ...... is some deportee .... who honed his skills ..... while he was in America ....... cuz who else go really have de time .... tuh be consistently spray painting up de whole damn place?!! .....

And even tho ..... each new discovery ...... seemin 'new' ...... is really just new drawings ...... of de same two designs ..... so is clear dat is de same person or persons ..... doin all ah dem ..... what is NOT clear however ..... is what de arse de artist really tryin tuh say ..... an' yes I call them artists ...... cuz at de end of de day ...... yuh hadda have ah lil talent tuh do dat shit .....  but seriously ...... up tuh now ..... I cyah figure out what de hell de characters are ..... one set lookin like cherries ..... an' another set lookin like 'HOWOK'??!

But ..... while these artists ...... likin deyself ..... goin about their 'different' form of artistic expression ..... ah know it have some out there ..... who turnin blue eh ......
cuz really an' truly ...... pretty or not ..... legible or not ..... at de end of de day ...... vandalism also comin in tuh play!! ...... but you know nobody cyah stop dat! ...... cuz who goin' an take dat orn (de Police?) ...... and how exactly anybody go ketch dem ...... cuz anybody ever actually see ah graffiti artist at work ..... graffiti artists come like de Ninjas of artists ...... and de next mystery ..... who funding it ....... who payin fuh all dat spray paint (Samaroo's muzbe makin ah killin!) ..... and taxi money ..... where dey gettin dat from ...... when dey hadda go drivin around everywhere ....... lookin fuh new big clear spaces tuh deface?!

Personally ...... I love to see graffiti (ones ah could understand tho) ...... so fuh me ..... the art will always precede the arseness ...... and I will always get excited at the sight of a new piece!

Graffiti is making a comeback right now, not just in T&T. Some of it is indeed art.

I wish the people who practice arseness would do so on paper. We don't need to look at crappy stuff like that.

BTW, there is a french graffiti artist by the name of Howok. Who knows, he could be vacationing in T&T.

It's nice to see graffiti take on an artistic look. Except for the crude scribbling of "Lunatics" posted outside the "mad house", or the PM's mansion - I can't make it out - the graffiti is tasteful. I am going to put on some night clothes, get me a few cans of spray paint and paint another town

works of art indeed. i teach in a school, and the majority of graffiti we get are of guns so it's nice to see pretty colourful ones.

and oh- i like the stop signs with "aluminum smelters" underneath.
    ever saw them around?
    that was real original.

trini2debone i will have to disagree because from my research which my friend and I have been conducting since spotting the first set of "HOWOK"'s have led us to the following facts: (1) he lives in france, paris to be exact and we know this as on some of his graffiti it reads "94 to trinidade and tobago" or "94 BAB" or "94 trinidad" and the 94 he is referring to is where he lives in paris as paris is broken up into different area codes and 94 being one of them. Further research is that he works with other guys whose names are "KO" also seen on his graffiti,"BAB" also on his graffiti,"ONEBAY/Nebay" also on his graffiti. Another trademark of his is to number his Tags but he doesn't necessarily number all. So far i have spotted #1,2,3,4 and 6.Still looking for #5 so yall can help me with that.....So now you know from #7 up is new tags......but i am curious to know where you got your information....

You're right Rob! If you check the net extensively, you'll not only find works dating back to 2005 from the french Howok guy but you'll also see the resemblance to the art in T&T.

Apparently there is some spanish kid that is using the same name now, but his crap does not look like the original.lol
