So at 8:30 pm ..... on Saturday March 28 ...... while de rest of de world ...... was turning off all dey lights ..... in recognition of EARTH HOUR (tuh try an' help save de Earth) ...... we in Trini (de Hasely Crawford Stadium tuh be exact) ..... was frantically lookin fuh (more) lights tuh TURN ON ...... cuz clearly de Soca Warriors ..... wasn't seein de blasted goal post!!!
But oh gorm ..... first tings first ...... HAPPY BAPTIST LIBERATION DAY PEEPS!!!
Now I had no intention of goin football eh ...... as ah matter of fact ..... I doh really go football no more ..... I lock off football since dat year .... dey had start dat dotishness .... of orderin tickets online ...... and callin number an' ting ...... cuz I find ..... it was like dey was tryin tuh keep 'Scenes' out ..... especially too ..... wit dem new wack prices dey started callin ..... dah 2 blue fuh uncovered ....... an' dah 5 blue fuh covered ...... so as ah say ...... goin football was not on my 'Things To Do' list dis weekend ...... however ...... ketchin it fuh free on TV was ......
So wit newspapers in hand ...... and couch nicely fluffed ..... ah settle eeeeen tuh watch de match on TV ..... only tuh discover SALT ...... de match like it really wasn't goin an' show on de TV ..... but ..... was no scene ...... ah jus revert tuh readin meh papers ...... when seconds later ..... meh cell phone start tuh ring ...... it was fren on de line ...... callin tuh say ...... she reach (de football) ...... an' she handle meh ...... so link her in de covered stands .....
Wit dah one now ..... I start tuh scramble ...... cuz was done 6:39 pm ...... an' match startin 7:00 pm ...... so ah jump eeeen de shower quick ..... pull ah cowboy ..... fly back out ...... ransack de house lookin fuh meh FLAG TOP ...... an' call ah nex fren tuh drop meh ..... cuz at dat hour is no way I was driving down dey ..... tuh be stressin fuh no park ......
Right ..... so ah reach down by de Stadium now ..... an' ah call up fren who had de ticket ..... fuh her tuh come outside an' meet meh ...... well dey didn't want tuh let her out ...... and on my end ...... dey didn't want tuh let me in (cuz ah didn't have no ticket) ...... altho ah explain tuh de security ..... dat meh ticket was inside (LOL - he muzbe was tinkin 'yeah right') ..... anyway .... somehow fren sweet-talk she way out ..... an' come by de big gate tuh hand meh de ticket .... when de security calmly tell her (and me) ...... dat I cyah pass tru dat gate ..... I hadda go around de next side ...... eh heh ...... fren adjust she posture in front he face ...... made sure the '34D' girls was salutin properly ...... an tell de security man "doh study it - we eh go tell nobody yuh let she tru" ...... an' dat was dat ..... de man open de gate ..... an' leh meh pass yes! .....
So we reach eeeeen de stands now ...... an' ah get meh seat ...... an' WOW ...... what a sight it was ...... I was in awe ...... cuz yuh know me an' meh red, white and black ...... if you see dat Stadium how gorgeous it look ...... was jus people ..... and red ...... all over ..... an tho it wasn't packed tuh capacity ...... de crowd was so nicely scattered ..... dat it make de place look ram .....
Anyway ..... so ah settle eeeeen ..... ah pull out de camera (which btw givin some trouble - I smell a new one coming soon) ...... an' ah start tuh maco de stands tuh see who dey ...... that is ..... in-between doin about 3 wave (oh gorm Trinis like dat shit eh!) ..... ah see Chris Birchall ...... ah see Dwight Yorke ..... ah see ah setta dotish Ministers ...... so yeah it had some 'celebs' and real people generally ....... which brings me tuh a point dat I just have tuh make ...... TRINIS HAVE MONEY ...... cuz when I really check it ..... was ah whole $500 tuh get eeeeen dem covered stands ..... and de place was full(ish) ..... I even see chirren ..... WOW!!
After meh lil 'get mehself oriented' maco session now ...... I didn't even get chance tuh get into tuh de game too good ...... cuz in two-two's was half-time ...... which was real borin ..... talk about lame entertainment! ..... where was de Soca Artistes (a la cricket) ...... tuh energise de Soca Warriors ...... all I see was ah setta moko jumbie ...... an' some fellas raisin ball ...... an' ah lil group runnin around .... deck off in de national colours and sportsin de flag ...... and gyuls gettin pelt up in de air an' ketch back (looked like foreign acrobats) ..... YAWN .... as ah say ...... de half-time entertainment was real jokieness ..... but I eh move ah muscle ..... ah sit tru de whole ting ...... cuz wit dat crowd ...... gettin up tuh gallivant ..... was not an option!
So half-time done ..... and de game start back ...... well before I could say ..... "I am ah Soca Warrior, win or lose I am ah fighter, I am ah Soca Warrior, TnT we want ah goal" ...... VAPs ..... Honduras score ...... jus so ..... as de second half start ..... STEUPS ..... ah say buh wait ..... like Iz ah blight ..... I now reach ...... and Honduras go score ...... STEUPS again!!!
It then took de Soca Warriors ...... ah whole 43 minutes into de second half ...... tuh equalise ...... yep ...... and de goal was scored by ah substitute too ...... some boy name Khaleem Hyland ...... so yuh read meh rite ..... we did nearly LORSE!!! ..... in true Soca Warriors style ...... dey make we sweat ...... ah whole $500 worth of it ..... but ..... leh meh tell yuh ...... de craziness dat erupted in dat Stadium ..... when people realise dat is SCORE we score ..... dat alone was worth gettin out my house for ..... it was real tizzick ...... and den like de tizzickness just grew ..... wit dat 3 minutes extra time we get ...... cuz of course Trinis was still rah-rah-in ..... in anticipation of another flukes!
3 minutes later, however ..... it was not meant to be ...... lightning did not strike twice ..... but ...... at the blow of dat whistle ...... wit ah draw result ..... you woulda swear we win de match!
Of course in all de 'draw/win' revelry ...... is no way I coulda go straight home ...... so ah end up Pon D Corner (aka Corner Bar) ...... it took me 1 hour and 30 minutes to get from de Stadium ..... to Corner Bar ..... Carib had ah big truck ..... dat ride out from de Stadium ..... dat was suppose tuh park up by Crobar ...... well dem come an' jumbie de whole scene ..... cuz as de Police stop de traffic .... tuh allow dem tuh get onto de Foreshore ...... dey start tuh head straight fuh Ariapita Avenue ..... an' dat was de end of dat ..... CARNIVAL COME AGAIN! ..... we end up havin tuh spin round ...... and pass tru de back by Lions ..... it was complete and total chaos!!
But ...... all's well that end's well ..... ah eventually reach Corner Bar ...... but da'is too much stories tuh tell ...... so tuh cut a very long story short ...... ah fun time was had by all ...... altho de place was real hot (as usual) and de bar was real stink!!! ...... everybody had orn dey red ...... representin ..... Ozzy Majic was de DJ ..... so de music was real different ...... de man even pull out some Kiskadee Caravan selections ...... oh ..... and like he was launchin some new song or sumtin too ...... so he also performed ..... I even end up getting ah 'five finger discount' on one ah he CDs ..... dat he had jus lyin around on a table ...... which I found out after ..... really cost $30 ...... so I promptly handed it over tuh ah fren (had tuh get dat evidence outta my hand!) ...... who was flyin out tuh Antigua de next day ...... fuh him tuh spread de love ..... so Ozzy boy ..... we have yuh back ..... yuh music gorn Antigua

Sometimes when we draw a match it feels like a win. Only a Trini could feel like that. I stopped going football since I stopped playing small goal post but I think I will go next match. But Trinis can't cheer a team on. Trinis have two extremes wining and silence; we have no in betweens.
