When it comes tuh TIME ....... dat and Trinis doh saddle!!
An' it have all kyna TIME in Trini eh ..... it have TRINI TIMIN aka Not on Time ...... it have OUTTA TIMIN aka Yuh say or do sumting dotish ..... it have WRONG TIMIN aka Sumting happen dat eh suppose tuh happen at dat particular time ..... and it have IN AH TIMIN aka later ......
Well ...... tonight ah want tuh deal wit TRINI TIMIN ...... and not from de typical angle eh ...... from some different ones ......
Angle One ...... I remember back in de day ..... when ah used tuh work in de Bank ....... if we say we closin at 2:00 pm ...... it used tuh have at least one idiot customer ..... who would always walk eeen at ...... 1:59 pm ...... den when we had change de closin time tuh 3:00 pm ..... de same customer would den come eeeen at 2:59 pm!!!
Angle Two ...... last nite ...... ah wasn't feelin too good ...... so ah say leh meh call down ah soup (cuz when ah gettin dat flu-ish feelin ah like tuh wash it away wit soup) ...... so anyway ..... about 9:05 pm ...... ah call China Palace an' ah order de soup ...... along wit ah spring roll ...... so the girl (soundin like ah Trini) takes the order ..... takes my name ..... advises that I can collect in 10 minutes ..... and then wraps up by sayin dat dey close at ....... 'quarter tuh ten' ....... Grrrrrr??? ....... now when she say it ...... it sounded lil weird eh ...... cuz who de hell does close at 'quater tuh de hour'?! ...... so A A ....... my cousin now who was by me ..... and maco dat ah order food ...... decide tuh call down ah soup too ...... so ah call back China Palace ..... tuh add ah nex soup tuh de order ...... well ..... a different girl (wit ah rankin Chinese accent) answers the phone ..... and in the predictable rehearsed format ..... again ...... takes my name ...... advises that I can collect in 10 minutes ...... and then wraps by sayin dat dey close at 10:00 ..... GASP! ..... my suspicion was confirmed ...... their actual closing time was really 10:00 pm ....... and not no flickin 'quarter tuh 10' ...... so yuh understand wha scene 'Trini' gyul was on right ...... my gyul wanted tuh ensure dat dey close at 10:00 pm ..... which woulda den ensure dat she could leave at 10:00 pm ...... so she decide tuh tell customers dat dey closin 'minutes tuh' ...... which brings me to another angle .....
Angle Three ...... have you ever asked the time ...... and the response is ...... MINUTES TUH ...... or ...... MINUTES PASS?? ....... LOL ...... dat is so Trini! ....... cuz what de hell dat really mean ..... minutes tuh what? ..... and minutes pass what?

...... look at what ah friend of mine saw yesterday ...... while conducting business in the Elections and Boundaries place on Frederick Street ....... now fren had mention it tuh meh before eh (in terms of getting a pic of it) ...... and tho hearing the story was funny ...... seeing it was even funnier ......
Cuz yuh know how when yuh givin ah time ...... yuh might say ...... 10:00 pm ...... or 10:05 pm ....... or 10:10 pm ...... or 10:15 pm ..... etc. etc. ...... meh point bein ...... yuh would normal use ah increment of 5 ...... well ..... check out de 'Hours of Operation' dat de Elections and Boundaries came up wit fuh dey Diego peeps ......

I know a lot of non-trinis who are on "trini time".
I like the proactive girl in the chinese restaurant, trying to make sure she get's off on time. That Elections and Boundaries Notice is a riot.Closing at 4:12pm???? I wonder how they came up with that time. Can somebody send them an inquiry please, I'm dying to hear the explanation for that one.lol

8:00 - 4:12...Hmmmmmm, is ah first for everything oui. As for de Trini timin', I doh stick at all. I does get stink when I have tuh wait. So much so that my friends does call meh ah timekeeper. I does keep time like that!

Nearest I can figure is that they need that 3 mins to put away the files, close the drawers, use the washroom, fix makeup, adjust clothes, wash hands, and sign out... damn, they doing more in that 3 mins than the whole day, gyul!
Leave at 4:15 PM which is the regulation working time for Public Servants unless the post specifically requires 'shift' hours. They do not finish work at 4:00 PM as most people think.

The worst part is not the "minutes to"--it's when they say "ten to" or "five past" as if they were being "precise"!
